While the traditional abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” utilizes drains, which causes discomfort to the patient and require patients to have to learn to empty their drains, Dr. Edwin Kwon utilizes an advanced technique which he has published a study on called progressive tension suture abdominoplasty, otherwise known as “Drainless Tummy Tucks”.
This technique employs strategic quilting sutures that redistribute the tension of the abdominoplasty throughout the entire abdomen, rather than just at the incision.
This decreases tension at the scar line (improving the scar), allows more tissue to be removed, and does not require drains without fear of seroma or fluid collection.
